Disney’s Snow White Premiere: Exploring the Reasons for Scaling Down

Disney’s live-action Snow White was set to have a big premiere in Los Angeles, but on March 11, 2025, Variety reported that the studio decided to make it smaller. Instead of a flashy event, Disney planned a quiet pre-party and screening at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood on March 15, 2025. Normally, stars like Rachel Zegler (Snow White) and Gal Gadot (Evil Queen) would talk to many reporters on the red carpet. This time, Disney picked just a few photographers and its crew to cover it. The movie comes out in theaters on March 21, 2025.

The change came after years of arguments about the film. People got upset when Disney replaced the seven dwarfs with “magical creatures” of different sizes and genders. Some called it too “politically correct.” Others didn’t like that Zegler, a Latina actress, was chosen as Snow White. Actor Peter Dinklage, who has dwarfism, spoke out in 2022, saying it was strange to cast a Latina actress but still focus on dwarfs in a backward way. Disney said they were trying a new approach to avoid old stereotypes from the 1937 cartoon.

More trouble came from things Zegler and Gadot said. Zegler called the original Snow White “dated” in 2022, saying her character would be a leader, not a girl waiting for a prince. She also posted “free Palestine” online in 2024, which sparked debates. Gadot, who is Israeli, has supported Israel during the Gaza war, adding to the tension. Disney didn’t say why they scaled back, but these issues likely played a role. The smaller event shows Disney wanting to keep things calm before the release.
