Exploring Jalil Hasan’s Journey in Prime Video’s Spy High – Where Did He End Up?

Jalil Hasan was a key figure in the Spy High documentary, which was aired on Prime Video on April 8, 2025. As a Lower Merion High School student, he was part of the 2010 WebcamGate scandal, where the school district secretly used laptop webcams to monitor students at home.

Jalil filed a lawsuit when he was 17 with Blake Robbins after discovering that his privacy was invaded for two months, with over 1,000 images captured. The case was settled for $610,000, from which Robin got $175,000, whereas Jalil got a smaller amount of just $10,000.

After graduating in 2010, Jalil moved forward with his life. He attended community college in Philadelphia and began pursuing a career in music as a rapper under the name Mrkhuul. Today, he remains in Philadelphia, building his path in the music scene. His story in Spy High highlights the impact of the scandal and his steps toward a new chapter.

Jalil Hasan’s Privacy Battle with His School

Jalil Hasan was born in West Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His mother relocated the family close to the Lower Merion School District to receive improved educational opportunities. Jalil inclined towards creativity when he grew up, not academics. He considered himself an average student who preferred working on projects of his own rather than homework.

He also spoke of having to deal with slight issues being an African American student within a predominantly white school but did not linger on that. During 2010, while at Lower Merion High School, he hardly noticed when the green light on his MacBook laptop, which was supplied by the school, flashed on.

Everything changed in July 2010 when Jalil got a notice from the school. It revealed that the laptop had secretly taken photos of him at home and captured screenshots of his screen. This followed a court order tied to Blake Robbins’ lawsuit against the district for similar surveillance.

Jalil’s mother quickly filed a civil lawsuit on July 27, 2010, claiming the school invaded his privacy. The lawsuit stated that after Jalil misplaced his laptop and a teacher returned it to the school office, the IT department added tracking software. This software allegedly recorded him for almost two months, stopping only after the Robbins case gained attention.

The school’s notice confirmed 469 photos and 543 screenshots were taken, some at his home in Ardmore, Pennsylvania. The images were later deleted, according to the district. The lawsuit was settled in October 2010, with Jalil receiving $10,000 and reportedly signing a non-disclosure agreement. He noted the amount felt small but didn’t pursue more money. His story later appeared in the Spy High docuseries on Prime Video.
