Titanic: The Digital Resurrection is a 90-minute National Geographic documentary airing on April 11, 2025, at 9/8c, with streaming available on Disney+ and Hulu starting April 12. Released before the 113th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic on April 14, this special employs 715,000 digital photos to build an exact 1:1 digital model of the wreck, which was created by Atlantic Productions.

In 2022, director Anthony Geffen and Magellan mapped the wreck 12,500 feet below the surface, gathering 16 terabytes of information over three weeks. Specialists such as Parks Stephenson, Jennifer Hooper, and Chris Hearn worked with that information for almost two years, reconstructing the ship’s last moments with new findings.

The team explored the digital wreck on a large LED stage, spotting key details. An open steam valve in boiler room two showed engineers had stayed at their posts, keeping the power on for distress signals, possibly saving lives. It was also revealed by Hull fragments that the ship was torn apart and not split, which affected the first-class cabin passengers like J.J. Astor.

Scans also supported First Officer William Murdoch’s actions, showing a lifeboat davit in position, suggesting he didn’t abandon his duty before being swept away. The 15-square-mile debris field, filled with items like watches, coins, and shoes, was examined by historian Yasmin Khan, linking them to passengers. Its deterioration was also mentioned, but this digital twin keeps it the way it was in 2022.
