Marvel’s Thunderbolts* Released New Trailer: Bucky Leads an Anti-Hero Team as “Avengers are Not Coming”

Thunderbolts* is the new addition to the Marvel Studios’ superhero movies which according to the official sources will be released in theatres on May 2, 2025, for a worldwide audience. The film is produced by Kevin Feige and directed by Jake Schreier.

The story revolves around a group of few antiheroes who have been persuaded by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine and Bucky into completing a dangerous job. This assembly of reformed villains and misfits will combat a formidable foe, strongly hinted to be Sentry, played by Lewis Pullman. The film explores the intricate relationship among team members trying to cope with their own battles and past sins with the aim of redemption.

Thunderbolts* marks a distinctive addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe by focusing on characters who blur the line between heroism and villainy, it plunges audiences deeper into the nuances of morality surrounding the superhero genre.

Marvel Studios showcased another fresh trailer of Thunderbolts* during the Super Bowl LIX where a team of antiheroes is helmed by Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan). The trailer opens with Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) addressing a critical situation, stating, “The Avengers are not coming,” underscoring the absence of the traditional superhero team.

In reaction to an unknown threat, Valentina put together a motley crew called the Thunderbolts*. The trailer features action-packed sequences where these soldiers face off against a deadly enemy speculated to be Sentry, played by Lewis Pullman. Sentry’s immense power is evident as he engages with team members, presenting a significant challenge.

The narrative emphasizes the team’s struggle to unite despite their complex histories and differing motivations. Bucky Barnes emerges as a central figure, attempting to lead the group through internal conflicts and external dangers. The trailer culminates with high-stakes scenarios, hinting at the perilous mission ahead. Thunderbolts* offers a fresh perspective within the Marvel Cinematic Universe by focusing on characters who operate in moral gray areas.

On February 9, 2025, during Super Bowl LIX, a new trailer for Thunderbolts* arrived. The trailer showcases an antiheroes team which is initially assembled by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine and led by Bucky, highlighting their mission in a world where “The Avengers are not coming.” It gives us a closer look at the prominent threat they are believed to be facing, purportedly Sentry.

Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts* is scheduled for theatrical release on May 2, 2025. Directed by Jake Schreier, the film features an ensemble cast portraying a team of antiheroes undertaking a high-stakes mission. Florence Pugh stars as Yelena Belova, a skilled assassin with the pst of being a former Black Widow. Sebastian Stan returns as Bucky Barnes, also known as the Winter Soldier, bringing his combat expertise to the team. David Harbour portrays Alexei Shostakov, the Red Guardian, a super-soldier with a complex past. Wyatt Russell plays John Walker, the U.S. Agent, a government-sanctioned super-soldier.

Olga Kurylenko appears as Antonia Dreykov, known as Taskmaster, possessing the ability to mimic any fighting style. Hannah John-Kamen takes on the role of Ava Starr, or Ghost, who can phase through objects. Julia Louis-Dreyfus reprises her role as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, the orchestrator of the team. Additionally, Lewis Pullman joins the cast as Bob, a character speculated to be the powerful entity, Sentry. The film delves into the dynamics of this unconventional group as they navigate their mission and personal challenges.
