Major Filming Locations of Eddington

1) Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA

Eddington

Albuquerque was one of the main filming locations for Eddington, taking advantage of its position as New Mexico’s central production hub. The city’s urban landscape and proximity to diverse terrain made it perfect for depicting the fictional town’s background. A number of scenes, such as those involving the sheriff’s department and town interactions, were filmed there, with places such as the 200 and 300 blocks of Broadway being redecorated for the film.

Albuquerque’s infrastructure, such as Albuquerque Studios with nine sound stages, facilitated the technical requirements of the production. It’s 310 days of sunshine and a seasoned local crew, supported by New Mexico’s incentives, made filming smooth. The show had many local crew members and background actors hired for production, making its economic impact more than $52 million. The role of Albuquerque in filming showcased how it was becoming a center for big shows like Breaking Bad and Logan.

2) New Mexico, USA

Beyond Albuquerque, Eddington utilized several sites across New Mexico to fashion the fictional copper mining town. The state’s landscape diversity, ranging from urban areas to desert, provided a flexible environment for the narrative of the film, which is deeply rooted in New Mexico’s cultural and geographical identity. Santa Fe County, with its rolling hills and rural landscape, was a significant location for filming, capturing the stark, sun-bleached appearance at the heart of the film’s modern western aesthetic.

New Mexico’s film-friendly policies, including a 25% tax credit, attracted the production, which hired over 230 New Mexico-based crew and 59 lead actors. New Mexico’s history of shoot locations, as seen in movies like No Country for Old Men, only served to make it more desirable. The production’s filming in a variety of different locations highlighted New Mexico’s ability to double up on several settings, from main street sidewalks to open desert landscapes.

3) Truth or Consequences, New Mexico, USA

Eddington

Truth or Consequences, in Sierra County, was a major filming location for Eddington, providing the special rural environment that added to the noir western feel of the film. The 200 and 300 blocks of Broadway, specifically the old BBQ on Broadway site, were converted into the Sevilla County Sheriff’s office, which was a principal set for main scenes. The town’s real southwestern architecture and desert landscape offered a stark setting for the strained community tensions of the story.

Shooting here also generated economic advantages, such as employment opportunities for residents and added business for restaurants and motels. The presence of the production pointed to the increasing popularity of Truth or Consequences as a location for filming, abetted by New Mexico’s rural film incentives, which have spurred more than $36 million of expenditure outside of the Albuquerque-Santa Fe corridor in the last few years. The town’s offbeat character gave the movie’s description of a pandemic-era New Mexico town richness.

Catch Eddington in theaters and experience the unsettling, darkly comedic vision of a fractured town, brought to life by the very real, cinematic landscapes of the Southwest.
