Who Is Might Duy in Naruto? The Untold Story of the Man Who Forced the Seven Ninja Swordsmen to Retreat

Might Duy, who is also known as the eternal genin from Naruto, was one of the best Taijutsu users who ever existed. Although he remained an underrated character from the series despite the demonstration of his strength that forced even one of the most feared groups of ninjas, the Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist.

As far as the Naruto series shows, Might Duy was the first character who used the power of the Eight Inner Gates, and passed it down to his son, Might Guy. Might Guy(son) nor Might Duy (father) was born with this power, but they earned it by working hard.

The infamous story of the Duy when he killed four out of seven ninjas from the Seven Ninja Swordsmen group is told by Juzo Biwa to Itachi Uchiha on their first mission. Juzo, an Akatsuki member and first teammate of Itachi in Akatsuki, was stunned and acknowledged the strength of Might Duy, whom even Itachi did not know about; he knew only his son, Might Guy. That explains how underrated a character he has been throughout the Naruto series.

Might Duy jumped right on the time to save his son and his teammates from the Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist when they were surrounded and overwhelmed by the strength of the Seven Ninja Swordsmen. Might Guy, who used to feel bad about his father’s reputation as an Eternal Genin, insisted on letting go and run while Duy asked them to go to save themselves, being there a sacrificial pawn.

Guy even warned his father about them being powerful Jonin, underestimating his father’s strength, he called him just a genin. Might Duy used his Eight Inner Gates power to fight with the group, but the battle was never shown or explained exactly. However, it is clear that he used the Eight Gate, which is called Final Gate of Death, to fight the Seven Ninja Swordsmen and was able to kill 4 of them, and the remaining 3 retreated.

The only instance where the reference is provided of this exact battle is when Jugo and Itachi were assigned with an Akatsuki mission, and when Jugo learned that Itachi was from Leave village, he asked him if he knew the Might Duy and told Itachi about how Duy used exceptional Taijutsu to cut down Swordsmen 7 to 3, and Jugo was one of them who retreated.

Might Guy was close to his father, but he never acknowledged him as a powerful ninja due to various reasons, one of which was his reputation as an Eternal Genin and always getting low-rank missions. A few times, Guy saw his father going somewhere in the middle of the night, not aware of his training until the day he asked Guy to come along and watch what he had mastered.

Duy had secretly trained himself for 20 years to learn and master the forbidden technique called the Eight Inner Gates. Duy then promised to teach his son the technique while explaining each gate and its opening consequences, and also told him not use it until necessary, as it kills the user who opens the Final Gate of Death.

Duy did not belong to any special or infamous clan and was not born with any special abilities, but he learned and passed down the most powerful technique to his son, which allowed his son to surpass all 5 Hages at once and go toe to toe with Madara Uchiha in the Fourth Great Ninja War. Madara acquired Ten-Tails, Rinnegan, Hashirama’s Sage Mode, and was reincarnated, which made him almost immortal and invincible. Still, Guy challenged Madara Uchiha and almost killed him, and was acknowledged by Madara himself as the strongest of all the people Madara has ever fought.
