Why Did Shin Want to Kill Taro Sakamoto in Sakamoto Days? Episode 1 Breakdown

Sakamoto Days starts by providing a brief glimpse into the past of a legendary assassin who was feared by the worst of the worst, Taro Sakamoto. After retiring from the assassin world, Taro Sakamoto begins living a normal life with his wife while running a convenience store in a friendly neighborhood.

Amidst the peace, an acquaintance-cum-colleague from Sakamoto’s past appears at the convenience store, attempting to persuade him to rejoin the assassin world. That person was Shin. While convincing Taro Sakamoto, whom Shin idolizes the most, he learned about how Sakamoto is living these days, which surely didn’t impress the young assassin. Later on, Shin convinced himself to kill Taro Sakamoto and fired the bullet.

Despite idolizing Taro Sakamoto the most, Shin convinced himself to kill him. What led Shin to do such a thing was the pressure from the assassin boss, who ordered Shin to convince Sakamoto to return to the assassin world or kill him in case he rejected.

Shin was aware of the fact that if he won’t do it then someone else would be sent to get the job done. He was convinced that Sakamoto is going to die. In the midst of thinking, Shin concluded that if it is going to happen then it would be good to get this done by his own hands. To complete his mission he went to the convince store and fired the bullet at Sakamoto. Being a former top assassin Sakamoto was aware of the intentions so he was expecting something like this to pop up.

Sakamoto managed to change the direction of the fired bullet with just a spit candy ball and defended himself. As the battle continued between Sakamoto and Shin, Sakamoto dominated the fight without hassle and without using any fatal weapon. That was when Shin acknowledged the fact that he was up against a true legend, and despite looking totally out of shape and fat, Sakamoto still had it.

Shin was unconscious and failed to assassinate Taro Sakamoto. Even after being attacked by Shin, Sakamoto still helped him, kept him safe in his house, and fed him a full-course meal just after he regained consciousness.

Soon, Shin realizes why Taro Sakamoto left the Assassin world and that the life Sakamoto is living now is worth leaving that world behind. Shin tried to persuade the assassin boss to leave Sakamoto alone and not attempt to kill him, instead offering his own life. Shin was ready to sacrifice himself for Sakamoto’s sake when his boss promised not to target Sakamoto anymore. In that moment, Shin read his boss’s thoughts and discovered that he had no intention of keeping his promise and was planning to kill both Shin and Sakamoto.

A fight broke out in the whereabouts of the assassins. Shin dominated the fight and managed to kill numerous assassins until his leg got shot while he was trying to get away, as he was left with only one mag of bullets. Shin was surrounded by the assassins and was on the verge of death. That’s when Taro Sakamoto jumped in. Knowing such a thing would happen, he had bugged Shin’s gun with a tracking device and appeared right on time, defeating all the assassins, including the boss.

Before his appearance at the scene, it was shown that Sakamoto had a full arsenal of multiple weapons to protect himself and his family from such assassination attempts. After saving Shin, Sakamoto handed him an apron and asked him to join him at the convenience store to help run the store and start a new life. Shin happily accepted his offer and started working at the store.
