Emma and Jake, a pair looking for some relief from their hectic lives, check into the lavish Paradise Resort in a tropical destination. The movie begins with aerial views of beaches, pools, and upscale amenities, creating a tone of relaxation and opulence. Emma, played by Kayla Raelle, is depicted as inquisitive and compassionate, whereas Jake, played by Mo Sehgal, is laid-back but supportive. They check into their suite and quickly settle in, enjoying drinks and dinners.

On their first evening, they meet Sarah and Tom at the resort bar. Sarah, played by Taija James, is outgoing and shares stories of her recent marriage to Tom, played by Christopher Dover, who appears charming and attentive. The two couples connect over common activities such as snorkeling and spa time, creating what appears to be a real friendship. Sarah lightly confides in Emma regarding small marital issues, indicating Tom’s periodic mood swings, but nothing alarming so far.

The resort workers, such as an enigmatic manager and friendly concierge, contribute to the setting, with subtle indications of discomfort through peculiar stares and overheard chatter. As the group gets more time together, tiny fissures form: Tom takes himself off to “business calls,” and Sarah becomes more and more agitated.

The plot twist of The Paradise Murders is when Sarah is discovered dead in the resort’s infinity pool one morning early. The staff member makes the discovery, and the scene turns to pandemonium as emergency responders rush in. Reports initially indicate an accidental drowning due to consumption of alcohol from the night before the group dinner, but Emma picks up on discrepancies such as Sarah’s water phobia earlier. Flashbacks reveal Sarah taking Emma aside on the eve of the incident, muttering about her increasing suspicions about Tom’s loyalty and peculiar behavior, such as clandestine calls.

Tom is heartbroken, cooperating with local police who rule it an accident for lack of evidence. Jake convinces Emma to leave it alone and enjoy the remainder of their holiday, while Emma, fueled by her friendship with Sarah, becomes suspicious about specifics. Emma learns more about the history of the resort, discovering from an old bartender about previous ‘accidents. Emma also becomes concerned about Jake after discovering that he had been near Sarah shortly before her death and had not told her the truth about where he had been.

The incident changes the direction of the movie, turning the vacation thriller into a murder mystery that Emma is determined to solve. Emma becomes further engaged as she is exposed to more interaction with hotel employees, learning about subtle clues such as manipulated security footage. The part builds suspense by revealing suspicion of Tom, yet keeping other guests and workers in the mix as possibilities, keeping the pace consistent without overworking the storyline.

As Emma gets closer to the truth, the mystery takes a darker turn. The person responsible for Sarah’s death is Lee, a hotel attendant who knew Emma when they were younger. Lee had developed an obsessive attachment to Emma and believed that she cared for him in a way she never actually intended. When Emma returned to the resort, those feelings resurfaced.
Lee was also connected to the events surrounding Isla and Jarrod’s scheme. After Sarah became a threat to the secrets he was trying to protect, Lee killed her. He later killed Tom and Vera as he attempted to prevent anyone from exposing the truth.
